- Research using libraries, online sources, and regional, national, and international networks
- Data collection and analysis, statistical analysis, and basic mathematics
- Environmental audits, laboratory and field tests, and reports for internal and external stakeholders
- The causes and costs of sustainability including pollution, climate change, loss of biodiversity, water quality and supply, and human health
- Sustainability laws and regulations
- Project management
- Fundraising and public relations
