60th Anniversary

Celebrating 60 Years of Excellence: Lane Community College's Diamond Anniversary

Lane Community College (LCC) has been a cornerstone of educational excellence and community engagement since its founding on October 19, 1964. Over the past six decades, Lane has evolved from a visionary concept into a dynamic institution that serves a diverse population, offering comprehensive programs in vocational training, college transfer courses, and adult education. This year marks the 60th anniversary of LCC, a milestone that provides an opportunity to reflect on our rich history, celebrate our achievements, and envision the future.

A Legacy of Innovation and Growth

From its humble beginnings, when the first classes were held at temporary facilities with just 1,500 students, Lane Community College has grown exponentially. The donation of land by Wilfred Gonyea in 1966 allowed for the construction of our main campus, a pivotal moment that set the stage for decades of expansion and development. Today, LCC boasts state-of-the-art facilities, satellite centers in Florence and Cottage Grove, and a robust online learning platform that serves thousands of students each year.

Our commitment to high-quality teaching and faculty innovation has positioned LCC as a leader in the community college movement. Since 1973, Lane has been a proud member of the League for Innovation in the Community College, continuously striving to enhance educational practices and student outcomes. The college's Cooperative Education program, established in 1970, remains one of the largest and most successful in the nation, providing invaluable on-the-job training and career development opportunities.

Students at the Heart of Our Mission

Students have always been at the center of Lane's mission. Over the years, we have developed a myriad of services and programs to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse student body. From the establishment of the Gender Equity Center in 1973 to the creation of the Veterans Education Benefits Certification Office, LCC has consistently worked to support all students in their educational journeys.

Lane's impact extends beyond the classroom, reflecting the economic, cultural, and social needs of our community. Our continuing education programs, workforce development initiatives, and partnerships with local businesses have played a crucial role in driving regional economic growth and providing lifelong learning opportunities for residents of Lane County and beyond.

A Celebration of Community and Achievement

As we commemorate our 60th anniversary, we invite alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community members to join us in celebrating Lane's remarkable journey. The Diamond Anniversary festivities will include a series of special events, including a historical exhibition, alumni reunions, and a gala celebration. These events will honor the legacy of those who have contributed to Lane's success and highlight the stories of the students and graduates who have gone on to make significant contributions to society.

Looking Forward to the Future

While we celebrate our past, we are also focused on the future. Lane Community College is committed to continuing its tradition of excellence, innovation, and inclusivity. We look forward to expanding our programs, enhancing our facilities, and fostering an environment where all students can thrive.

Join us in celebrating 60 years of educational excellence and community service at Lane Community College. Together, we will continue to write the next chapter in our story, ensuring that LCC remains a beacon of opportunity and success for generations to come.
