History encompasses battles, dates, and famous people; and the stories of societies and peoples, human institutions, as well as personal and individual stories.

Transfer Interest Area

Begin your study of History at Lane Community College and transfer to earn your four year degree with the Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree. While fulfilling many general education course requirements for your bachelors degree, Lane gives you the opportunity to take classes exploring changes in humankind and human knowledge over time.

History is the systematic study and documentation of human activity, and historians seek knowledge of the past using historical sources such as written documents, oral accounts, art and material artifacts. History is the study of change over time, and it covers all aspects of human society, including political, social, economic, scientific, technological, medical, cultural, intellectual, religious and military developments.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

  • Acquire knowledge and understanding of people and events that shaped the history of the United States and many other countries of the world
  • Develop the ability to analyze and interpret historical data from multiple, and sometimes conflicting sources
  • Examine historical interactions between groups of people in an attempt to develop comprehension from multiple perspectives
  • Discover meaningful connections and insights into the links between "history" and contemporary times, with a particular eye towards continuity and change

AFTER LANE

With an affordable Associate of Arts, Oregon Transfer (AAOT) degree focusing on history, you’ll be ready to hit the ground running at a four-year university in a variety of majors, with your lower division general education requirements completed.
