Medical Assisting Program Update

Beginning in Fall 2025, the Medical Assisting (MA) Program hasl transitioned to a one-year format. The core MA coursework will be completed over three academic terms, followed by the MA Co-op experience in the fourth term. This updated structure is designed to provide students with a more streamlined, focused, and less stressful pathway to develop the skills necessary for successful placements in local medical clinics.

Including prerequisite coursework through completion of the clinical Co-op internship, the entire program can now be completed in five terms.

Application Process

All applications must be submitted through the dedicated LCC Application Portal. This portal serves as a one-stop location where applicants can:

• Complete required application information
• Upload the PDF application form
• Submit all supporting documentation

Prerequisite and Curriculum Changes

• The math prerequisite has been updated to Math 95/98 or higher. (Math 52 will no longer be accepted.)
• The Psychology prerequisite has been discontinued beginning Fall 2025.
• In place of Psychology, students will now select from designated Communication courses, which have been added to the core program requirements.
  • Note: If Psychology has already been completed, it will be accepted in place of Communication for Fall 2026.
• Computer courses and BT 165 Accounting have been discontinued from the program requirements.

MA Information Session May 13th, 2026 from 5:30pm-7:30pm in building 32/165 on main campus. This is an opportunity to learn more about the MA Program and how to complete the application process. There will be time for Q&A.

Application Information

The MA Spring Application became live on May 5, 2026. 

1. If you are new to the college, please begin with the general admission to Lane Community College application.
2. If you have already been a Lane student, please log into the Application Portal and choose the "I have completed program requirements and am applying to a special admission program" option so that you can be directed to the MA Program Application.

• The program can accept a maximum of 24 students. 
  *Florence students are welcome to apply. Please note weekly clinic labs are on Main Campus.
• By the start of the program, students must provide documentation of specific immunizations, background check & drug screen. Details will be given during the program orientation. Read a Summary of Requirements.
