Through mentorship, the International Student Peer Mentor Program supports international students gain the tools and confidence they need to thrive in their new community and make the most of their college experience.
Peer mentors play a crucial role in helping new international students transition from their home countries to the Lane Community College community. They connect with students before their arrival and meet with them throughout Welcome Week and their first term. During the term, peer mentors act as cultural bridges and valuable resources, assisting with mentoring, community building, and addressing interpersonal concerns. Transitioning from one country to another can often be overwhelming and, at times, a culture shock. This program is specifically designed to smooth that transition and support new international students throughout their first term at Lane Community College.
International Student Peer Mentor Program's Mission
The mission of the International Student Peer Mentor Program is to provide mentorship to incoming international students, helping them adjust smoothly to their new environment. By sharing experiences and offering valuable insights, mentors support new students in overcoming challenges and navigating their transition. The program aims to create meaningful connections between mentors and mentees, ultimately enhancing the overall experience of international students and ensuring they feel welcomed, supported, and integrated into their new community.
