In 2006, Lane Community College (LCC) became one of the first signatories of the American College and University President’s Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), whereby LCC committed to systematically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve carbon neutrality for all of its College operations across Lane County by the year 2050. Commitments for all signatories:
- Develop Climate Action Plan for becoming climate neutral.
- Complete a comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory.
- Submit updated greenhouse gas inventories and progress reports every two years.
Climate Action Plan
Lane Community College’s first Climate Action Plan was approved by the Board of Education in 2011. An update to the plan was published in 2018. The Climate Action Plan is a living document that serves as the College guide to achieve carbon neutrality; the document will be updated every five years.
In, 2018 the College joined the We Are Still In coalition.
Other Projects
We make regular donations of materials such as furniture, building materials, tools and equipment (mostly furniture) to local organizations such as BRING, Saint Vincent de Paul, Habitat for Humanity (ReStore), Goodwill, Eugene Mission, Next Step, and more. In the Fiscal Year of 2024, we donated a total of 27.5 tons of materials!
In the Fiscal Year of 2024, we became a BRING "Reframe Donor" for our donation of eight tons of materials to BRING.
