International Students at Lane have direct access to academic advising in the International Programs department and can also meet with advisors and counselors in the advising and counseling department.
Advisors meet with students at orientation to help them understand their placement test scores and to choose and register in the correct courses. Students then return to meet with their International Programs advisors in the third week of their first term. Advisors will verify that students are feeling successful in their courses and adjusting to life at Lane. Students and advisors will work closely together to craft a Lane degree and university transfer plan.
Advising Resources
Students who take professional/technical programs to be trained in selected job skills can attain either a Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science degree (AAS).
Students who want to take a variety of courses and are unsure if they want to transfer to a four-year program often choose the Associate of General Studies degree (AGS).
Students who are definite about wanting to transfer to a four-year program choose either the Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree (AAOT) or the Associate of Science degree (AS).
Transfer students may also choose to forgo a community college degree prior to transferring to a four-year school to pursue a Bachelor's degree. This is called the "direct transfer" option.
The different two-year degrees are listed in detail in Lane's Online College Catalog. Students meet with their academic advisor to determine which degree best meets their needs.
