Work for a more just future
All your options
Whether you are focused on a specific criminal justice-related career, still exploring your career options, or just want to learn more about crime and the American justice system while earning a useful degree, Lane’s criminal justice program has you covered with two degree options.
Associate Degree
The Criminal Justice AAS provides a broad but guided overview of crime and the U.S. criminal justice system. It’s the best option if you plan to enter the workforce after completing your studies at Lane.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
- How historical ideas and events have shaped the creation and development of the U.S. criminal justice system
- Why criminal laws exist and how they are created
- Why crime exists and what drives crime trends and rates at the individual, community, and societal levels
- How crimes are investigated and prosecuted
- What happens to a person who is accused of a crime
- How and why the U.S. punishes crime
- Why U.S. laws and correctional policies are often ineffective
- How the U.S. criminal justice system is viewed by various segments of the population
- How to find and interpret criminal laws, crime statistics, and other related information
- How the U.S. Constitution protects individual liberty and limits criminal justice institutions
AFTER LANE
The Criminal Justice AAS is designed to prepare you for whatever your next step may be, whether that’s entering the workforce or continuing your education. Our graduates can be found throughout the state and at all levels of leadership and responsibility—working in law enforcement and public safety, adult and juvenile corrections, courts administration, public and private legal services, social services, and private security.
Transfer Pathway
Want more flexibility? Lane also offers the AAOT with an emphasis in law enforcement and the administration of justice. This option lets you design a two-year degree that prepares you for transfer to a specific four-year degree program. This is a more efficient education path for some criminal justice careers, like forensic sciences.
AFTER LANE
The Criminal Justice AAOT will give you a solid foundation before you continue your education at four-year college. Our graduates can be found throughout the state and at all levels of leadership and responsibility—working in law enforcement and public safety, adult and juvenile corrections, courts administration, public and private legal services, social services, and private security.
