The Public Safety Cadet Program provides students a unique paid cooperative education opportunity for extensive law enforcement training and experience while serving the Lane Community College community.
The program is offered through a partnership with the Criminal Justice program and faculty recommend students for participation. Interested students face an extensive screening process and those accepted into the program receive up to nine weeks of state-certified training and testing that is required of any new LCC Public Safety officer.
Through the program, students work under the supervision of a Public Safety officer and have the opportunity to receive hands-on law enforcement experience to increase their marketability in the public sector when they complete their studies at Lane. There is also the potential for part-time employment once Cadets complete the program. In fact, about 80% of all cadets transition into part-time officer positions.
