Programs for adult English language learners who wish to improve their oral and written communication skills for their personal, professional, and academic goals.
If you have a student visa (F, J) or other visitor visa (B, C, D, M, P, or Q), please contact our International Programs Office instead of ESL.
Determine when you want to take ESL courses
We offer both daytime intensive ESL courses and an evening community ESL program.
Complete the ESL application
Once you complete your application, you'll receive a confirmation email. You can then log into the admissions portal to check the status of your application and see your next steps.
Once your application has been processed, you'll receive your L Number (Student ID Number) and student email. You'll need your L Number to complete the rest of the admissions steps.

Take a placement test
No matter your current English ability, you can take English as a Second Language classes at Lane Community College!
All new students need to take a placement test to determine the best level for you to begin. This test will let us know your ability in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. If you need any assistance, contact the ESL office at (541) 463-5253 or email at eslstudentservices@lanecc.edu.
