EUGENE, Ore. – Lane Community College athletic director Greg Sheley announced Friday the hiring of former Pac-12 and three-time national coach of the year Jim Moore as the Titans’ next volleyball coach.
“We are very excited to welcome Jim to Lane,” Sheley said. “His success and experience at the highest level of collegiate volleyball will benefit the program and our athletic department in general.”
Moore, who most recently guided the University of Oregon to 10 NCAA Championship appearances in 12 seasons, including the 2012 NCAA Championship Match, is one of the winningest coaches in Pac-12 history, ranking ninth all-time in both total (246) and conference (120) victories.
“It feels great to be back on the floor in a college gym,” Moore said. “Eugene is a special place and there’s incredible potential here at Lane.
“I want to thank Greg Sheley for this opportunity and look forward to working with the student-athletes to build this program into one they will be proud of and the community will be excited to support.”
Moore has an overall coaching record of 598-288 in 27 seasons with stops at Northern Michigan, Kansas State, Texas and Chico State, in addition to Oregon. He has coached 12 U.S. National Team players, recruited 30 All-Americans and led his 1993 Northern Michigan team to a NCAA Division II National Championship.Prior to Moore’s arrival at Oregon, where he coached from 2005 to 2016, the Ducks had gone 14 years without a winning record. His 2006 team started a new streak, winning 17 games (17-12), and earning him Pac-12 Coach of the Year accolades. UO has had a winning record every season since.
Moore’s Ducks were one of only two Pac-12 schools during his tenure to receive the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Academic Team award and qualify for the NCAA Championship tournament in multiple years.

Congratulations to Jim Moore and the Lane Community College Women’s Volleyball Team! I'm confident the program will be very successful with him as the head coach. Jim was and continues to be greatly influential in my volleyball career. I am extremely grateful for the years that I got to play for him at Oregon as that time helped me to grow and develop into the player and person that I am today. I wish the program and players great success as they learn, grow and compete under his direction and passion for the game.
Liz Brenner – University of Oregon All-American and five-sport student-athlete
I am so happy for Jim. I absolutely loved playing for him. He is a great coach and knows the game better than anyone. Lane is very lucky to have him!
