EUGENE, Ore.— In honor of Native American History month, the Lane Community College Library is pleased to announce a book talk and slide show with Lane instructor Daniel Henry. Join us for a discussion about his new book, “Across the Shaman’s River: John Muir, the Tlingit Stronghold, and the Opening of the North” on Tuesday, November 28 from 3:30-5 p.m. in Center Building, Room 229 (inside the Library), main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene.

Using John Muir’s original journal entries, historic writings of explorers in the Northwest, and insights from Tlingit descendants, Across the Shaman’s River “reveals how Muir’s famous canoe journey changed the course of history and had profound consequences on the region’s Native Americans.”

A longtime Alaska resident and advocate for public lands and wilderness, Henry has published extensively on environmental concerns and the relationships—both sublime and destructive--between people and the natural world. Henry is a Pushcart Prizewinner, and a frequent contributor to the Earth Island Journal, Northern Lights, and other publications.

Copies of “Across the Shaman’s River” will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public.
