Asian and Pacific Islander American Rites of Passage Program
Welcoming Lane County high school students!
The Asian and Pacific Islander American Rites of Passage (APIAROP) program is a welcoming space for all high school students in Lane County.
The objective of this immersive program is to provide an opportunity for student participants to increase their awareness and create meaningful connections and holistic understanding of the APIA community within a cultural, social, and academic framework.
APIAROP honors, supports and empowers students of all backgrounds in their journey to their desired academic pursuits, leadership development, career exploration, and vital community and civic involvement in Lane County and beyond.

Asian and Pacific Islander American Rites of Passage (APIAROP) is a culturally appropriate program for self-identifying APIA high school students. The programʻs goal is to help enrich the lives of students through an exploration of APIA history and a greater understanding of cultural identity through leadership development, advocacy, empowerment, and support.
The APIAROP program provides experiential and culturally specific learning activities to assist Asian and Pacific Islander American high school students in achieving success. The primary objectives are to promote and sustain cultural awareness, understand Asian and Pacific Islander American issues, increase intercultural skills, and develop personal and community empowerment skills.
What do we do?
- We explore cultural history and experiences through film and facilitated field excursions.
- We share family and community connections through oral history and storytelling.
- We learn the importance of indigenous knowledge through the cultural protocols of hula and Asian and Pacific Islander familial and community relationships.
- We develop leadership and communication skills through facilitated team-building activities.
- We prepare college portfolios that include scholarship information, application processes, and essays.
Where is APIAROP?
APIAROP program is held on the main campus of Lane Community College.
How much does APIAROP cost?
The program is free to participants through the generous contributions of Lane Community College and community partners.
