Vector Solutions Safety Training

Vector Solutions Safety Training offers a training titled Student Mental Health. This course is designed to provide an overview of mental health issues, and helpful information on referring a student to qualified professionals.

Employee Workshops

Employee Mental Health Supports

While not directly part of the Mental Health and Wellness Center (MHWC), there are resources available to employees to support overall mental health.

Lasting Improvements for Employees (Employee Wellness Program) - Employees have access to resources to enhance employee wellness through the Employee Wellness Program.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - Employees have access to free confidential counseling through the Employee Assistance Program.

OEBB Supports - As a member of OEBB faculty/staff have access to a variety of health and mental health supports through the OEBB Wellness Resources webpage.

Mental Health in the Classroom

How to recognize possible mental health challenges in students:

  • Appearing sad/withdrawn 2+ weeks
  • Sudden pattern of Zoom camera off
  • Sudden pattern of missing class
  • Sudden decline in academic quality
  • Sudden change in meeting deadlines
  • Talk about self-harm or plans to end life
  • Talk about risk-taking behavior that may cause harm to self or others
  • Talking about death or suicide
  • Outbursts or extreme irritability
  • Appearing overwhelmed
  • Appearing fearful for no apparent reason
  • Discloses racing heart, physical discomfort or difficulty breathing
  • Sudden weight/appearance change
  • Discloses hearing or believing things that may not be real
  • Excessive use of alcohol or drugs
  • Drastic changes in mood, behavior, personality or sleeping habits
  • Extreme difficulty concentrating or staying still
  • Extreme mood changes of highs and lows
  • Low energy
  • Talk about frequent stomach or head-aches
  • Reporting intense worries or fears that get in the way of daily activities
  • Reporting/showing withdrawal from friends/family/social activities

How to Help:

  1. Recognize the warning signs
  2. Privately express your concerns nonjudgmentally to the student
  3. Be clear with the student about the limits of your role
  4. Connect the student with the Mental Health and Wellness Center (MHWC) (free and confidential to students)
  5. If the student appears to be in immediate danger of hurting self or others contact the MHWC or Public Safety
  6. Do not promise that you can keep threats confidential
