EUGENE, Ore.— Lane Community College welcomes Dr. Mark Van Den Hende as its new dean of extended learning. Dr. Van Den Hende will oversee the college’s noncredit, continuing education, and small business programs at the downtown Eugene campus.
Dr. Van Den Hende is a senior executive and community college leader with more than 20 years of success spanning teaching and learning at every level. He has extensive experience with executive boards, accreditation, strategic partnerships, faculty and staff support, academic and workforce program development, and international relations.
“I sincerely thank LCC staff and faculty for including me at this time to help area community and business owners as well as all industry sector workers attain personal, workforce, and customized training. As a former small business owner, that returned to a community college for retraining, I am a product of the open door mission that the extended learning division represents.”
Dr. Van Den Hende previously served as vice president for academic and student affairs at Bermuda College (a British Overseas Territory) and at South Georgia State College. He has held dean positions at Cascadia College, South Puget Sound Community College, and Columbia Basin College, all in Washington state. Dr. Van Den Hende has taught teacher training at the college, university and graduate levels.
Dr. Van Den Hende has an associate of science in journalism from Ventura College, a doctorate in higher education leadership from Washington State University, a master’s in education in student personnel administration in higher education, and a bachelor of arts in secondary education/U.S. history from Western Washington University.
