EUGENE, Ore.– Brenda Williams, a student advisor at Lane Community College, has been named a 2020 Advisor of the Year by the Oregon Academic Advising Association. She is the only community college person to win the award; three other advisors were recognized, all from Oregon State University.

“Brenda is simply an extraordinary academic advisor. She consistently goes the extra mile to listen to, advise with expertise, encourage, and support all of her students in reaching their academic goals,” said Deron Fort, dean of High School Connections and Cooperative Education at Lane.

Williams has worked at Lane since 2010. She helps students in the college’s High School Connections, College Now, and Early College (RTEC) programs to transition successfully from high school to community college and/or university. She also works closely with counselors, transition specialists, and teachers at high schools in all 16 districts of Lane County and beyond, as well as advising and admissions professionals in area universities.

Before Lane, William’s career included posts at the University of Oregon Business Office, Central Oregon Community College Financial Aid Office, and Oregon Institute of Technology Admissions Office. She has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Oregon and a Master’s in Adult Education from Oregon State University. She recently finished a certificate in Project Management from Lane’s Continuing Education department.
