EUGENE, Ore.— The Lane Community College Warming Center is activated for Wednesday, December 20, and is on standby through Saturday, Dec. 23. Lane’s center will not open December 24 or 25.
During the last cold snap which kept Egan centers open for a record 10 days from Dec. 4 through Dec. 13, Lane’s center served 200 guests with 32 volunteers contributing 656 hours of their time.
LCC’s works in partnership with Egan Warming Centers. Egan centers open when the temperature is expected to drop below 30 degrees, from Nov. 15 to March 31 each winter.
The LCC Warming Center is located in Building 4, Room 104, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene. The center opens at 6 p.m. and is accessible. The center is primarily intended for students and other homeless members of the LCC community. LCC will provide two meals, access to restrooms and showers, and a safe, warm place to sleep, including bedding.
LCC’s center was established by the combined efforts of students and the Department of Public Safety with support from campus Food Services and the Center for Meeting and Learning.
