EUGENE, Ore.— For the first time ever, Lane Community College will televise its commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 16, outdoors on Bristow Square in the heart of main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene.
Lane-TV (Comcast Cable Channel 23) will begin a live feed at 11 a.m. just in time for the bagpipers set to open the 53rd annual event.
Lane-TV is a 24-hour cable TV station offering a variety of live and pre-recorded educational programming. Most programs are shown in conjunction with Lane credit courses. Noncredit course programming, community service programs, and programming originated by the University of Oregon also are aired.
Lane expects to award about 2,110 associate degrees and certificates to approximately 1,240 graduates this year. About half of these graduates will earn more than one degree or certificate.
A crowd of about 3,000 family, friends and well-wishers is expected to attend.
Commencement speakers include LCC President Margaret Hamilton, LCC Board of Education Chair Rosie Pryor, U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley, and former student body president Michael Weed.
