Hamilton was a nurse before launching her 28-year career in community college administration. She was named Lane’s seventh president in July 2017 after a rigorous nationwide search.

About Dr. Margaret Hamilton
Dr. Margaret Hamilton is president of Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon since July 2017. She previously was vice president for academic affairs, institutional effectiveness and planning at Camden County College in New Jersey. She holds a doctorate from Widener University and a Master of Science in nursing from the University of Delaware. Dr. Hamilton held numerous positions in higher education including assistant to the vice president for curriculum and instruction, assistant to the vice president for administrative services, assistant vice president for human resources and dean for math science and health careers. Prior to Camden County College, Dr. Hamilton taught nursing at several schools in southern New Jersey including Rutgers-Camden, Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing, and Gloucester County College. She served on the board for Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing and other community boards. She has been an editorial advisor for the Annual Review of Nursing and the peer reviewed journal, Nurse Educator. Dr. Hamilton has extensive experience in issues related to higher education, workforce development and accreditation.
