LCC physical therapist assistant student Adama Sanou wins national recognition

EUGENE, Ore. - Lane Community College student Adama Sanou is the 2018 recipient of the American Physical Therapy Association Minority Scholarship Award for Student Physical Therapist Assistants. Sanou was selected by the APTA Board of Directors based on evidence of contributions in the areas of minority affairs and services and high scholastic achievement and on his potential for excellence as a physical therapist assistant.

Sanou is a second-year student in Lane’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program. He moved from Burkina Faso, West Africa, to pursue a career in physical therapy and study at Lane.

OPTA President and Lane Community College Program Coordinator Christina Howard said, "Adama demonstrates leadership by representing the PTA program, speaking to potential donors about physical therapy and the role our profession plays in the larger health care system, and sharing his experiences as an international student.” She added, “Adama is called to our profession and willingly gives back locally and globally in recognition of his emerging knowledge and position."

APTA national award recipients will be recognized at the APTA NEXT Conference and Exposition in Orlando, Florida on Thursday, June 28.

Lane PTA students achieve a 91 percent or better graduation rate, a 92 percent or better license exam pass rate, and a 100 percent employment rate within six months of graduation.
