EUGENE, Ore.–Lane Community College has won first place in the Eugene Carbon Free Challenge.
Lane's Sustainability Committee promoted participation in the Challenge and hosted an event to generate interest. Some faculty awarded class credit for students who registered and joined the Lane Community Group in the Challenge. The competition involved creating an emissions profile and generating an emissions baseline, followed by participant’s actions to improve their household carbon footprint. Although the Challenge has ended, the tool remains available for anyone who wishes to join LCC’s Community Group, create an emissions profile, and select actions for reduction.
Representatives from the Eugene Carbon Free Challenge presented Lane with the first prize last week. The prize was five giant sequoia tree seedlings and a Lane Forest Products gift certificate for two yards each of soil and mulch.
Lane is a longtime and well-known leader in sustainability, infusing sustainability practices and education throughout the curriculum and college operations since 2004.
