EUGENE, Ore. — The Lane Community College Board of Education is seeking applicants for appointment to fill the remainder of the Zone 1 term which expires on June 30, 2017. Zone 1 represents western Lane County including Florence, Veneta and west Eugene. Applicants should submit a letter of interest by April 1 and be prepared to interview with the board on April 12; more information is online at www.lanecc.edu/board.
Board Chair Sharon Stiles of Florence stepped down from the post at the board’s March 8 meeting. She is moving out of district. She thanked board members for their collegiality and commitment during her eight years on the board. Stiles chaired the board twice and also chaired the 2016/17 Presidential Search Committee. The board approved Rosie Pryor to take over as chair and approved Matt Keating to serve as vice chair.
The Zone 1, 3 and 4 seats on the seven-member board are up for election in the May 16 special election. Zone 3 represents the Springfield and Marcola area and is currently held by Dr. Gary LeClair of Springfield. Zone 4 represents Eugene and the eastern part of the district and is currently held by Matt Keating. Board members serve four-year, non-paid terms. The board has primary authority for establishing policies governing the operation of the college and adopting the college's annual budget. Their charge is to oversee the development of programs and services which they believe will best serve the needs of the people of the Lane district.
