EUGENE, Ore. - The Lane Community College Board of Education appointed Melanie Muenzer to fill the Zone 1 vacancy at its April 12 meeting. Muenzer will complete the term which expires June 30, 2017. She is running for election to that seat in the May 16 special election.
Muenzer lives in West Eugene. She is associate vice president for academic administration and chief of staff to the provost at the University of Oregon. In prior experience she served for seven years at the U.S. Department of Education as an appointee of President Obama.
The Zone 1 seat was vacated last month when former board member Sharon Stiles announced that she was moving out of district. Zone 1 represents western Lane County including Florence, Veneta and West Eugene.
