EUGENE, Ore. — When 350 million photos are uploaded to Facebook every day, why bother with photography?
Ed Aust invites students into a deeper exploration and discovery of the world around them through social documentary photography, at a lecture at Lane Community College on Friday, January 20, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Building 17, Room 111, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene. The presentation is open to the public and there is no charge. It will be live-streamed at livestream.com/accounts/1882643/events/6837855
An exhibit by Aust, “Photos from the Imperfect World,” is on display at the Lane Community College Art Gallery through February 9.
Aust has been a street photographer for 35 years, capturing the movement and energy of daily life. Through his projects he’s explored China’s streets, student living environments, commuters, cultural artifacts, urban symbols, wedding album rejects, the American family, and other social subjects. “When I venture out with my camera,” says Aust, “my best hope is to reveal something that approaches visual poetry: the grace and astonishment of existence, what it is to live.”
