Emerging choreographers and Lane alumni Chelsey Buystedt and Courtney Snow, and Angela Dunham with flex Studios, will be returning to Lane as professionals to present their work. Eugene Ballet Youth will perform a new dance choreographed by Sarah Ebert. Alito Alessi with DanceAbility International, which celebrates dance as a vehicle for connection and inclusion, will be presenting a mixed abilities dance piece.
Lane dance faculty Bonnie Simoa and Sarah Nemecek will present original work with the Lane Dance Company. Guest artist Rachael Lincoln, Bay Area dance artist now on faculty at University of Washington, will set a new work six Lane dancers. Rachael’s new work will represent the Lane Dance Program at the American College Dance Association’s Conference in Boulder, Colorado spring break.
The Lane Dance Company will perform the traditional Balinese dance Rejang Dewa. This dance was recently named “Intangible Cultural Heritage” by UNESCO–United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. UNESCO identifies cultural entities in need of preservation and protection through the Intangible Cultural Heritage Program. This title serves to honor, respect and preserve these essential cultural practices. Lane Dance program is participating in the global efforts to preserve and honor this and other Balinese Dances.
Lastly, the performers and audience members will perform a phrase from Pina Bausch’s 1982 dance Nelken called The Nelken-Line which is part of a world wide documentation project. See more about this project at: http://www.pinabausch.org/en/projects/the-nelken-line
