EUGENE, Ore. - The Lane Honors Program and its partners will host Sharon Schuman, author of “Freedom and Dialogue in a Polarized World” (U. Delaware, 2014), on Tuesday, Feb. 21. A lecture and discussion will be held from 3-4 p.m. followed by an optional half-hour exercise in dialogic freedom, in the Center for Meeting and Learning, Room 102, main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene. Schuman’s interactive presentation introduces key arguments from her book about the power of dialogic freedom. Schuman argues that this concept can help diminish the most polarizing conflicts now shaping our political world.
Schuman has a bachelor of arts from Stanford, a master of arts from San Francisco State, and a doctorate from the University of Chicago. She has taught Shakespeare, Elizabethan poetry and drama, Chaucer, Milton, world literature, and political theory and literature. She has published academic papers on Shakespeare, poetry, writing, and dialogic freedom. She contributes to local and regional newspapers.
