Lane Community College (LCC) is committed to upholding the rights of all students under Title IX, including those who are pregnant or have a pregnancy-related condition. On August 1, 2024, the Department of Education enacted revisions to the Final Rule for Title IX of the 1972 Federal Civil Rights Act, which included additional protections for students who are pregnant or have a pregnancy-related condition. This new requirement is being hailed nationwide as a significant and important achievement by experts and advocacy groups. LCC’s compliance with federal law includes implementing practices that provide for these students to receive the Title IX Coordinator’s contact information and information regarding campus supports.
Resources for these students include access to lactation spaces, academic accommodations, consideration for pregnancy-related absences, and other adjustments to help safeguard equal access to education and encourage academic success. While these resources have existed at LCC for some time, the goal of the revision is to expand access to them for vulnerable student groups.
To ensure that all students who inform the college that they are pregnant, or have a pregnancy-related condition, receive this essential information, Lane Community College has established a procedure to maintain necessary compliance with Title IX and its updates. It is important to note that this procedure does not serve as an opt-out for faculty or staff; all faculty and staff are required to fully comply with Title IX guidelines and ensure that students receive the necessary information and support when the student informs the employee that they are pregnant or have a pregnancy-related condition. The procedure will be distributed by the Title IX Office to college employees internally.
Lane Community College will continue to provide all students in this category with the information and resources they need to exercise their rights under Title IX. Our priority is to create a supportive and inclusive environment where all students can succeed.
