LONGVIEW, Wash. – Despite an initial setback against Spokane in the opening round, the Lane Titans have staged a remarkable comeback, securing three consecutive victories, punctuated by a comprehensive 4-0 win over the very same Spokane team in a decisive elimination match on Sunday at the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Baseball Championship, played at Lower Columbia College's David Story Field in Longview, Washington.
Following an 8-5 defeat to the Sasquatch in the first round, the Titans' pitchers have since exhibited formidable performances over the subsequent three games, conceding a mere four runs. Nathan Marshall delivered an exceptional performance on Sunday, silencing Spokane over seven innings, while yielding only three hits and four walks, coupled with two strikeouts.
Styer Brinkley and Beau Burnett maintained the Titans' momentum, sealing the scoreless run with two shutout innings.
The Titans' offense found its stride in the top of the fifth inning when Aiden Gebhard led off with a single, later coming home on a groundout. Despite a walk and a single, with two outs, it seemed the Sasquatch would escape the inning with only one run against them. However, an error prolonged the inning, eventually resulting in three more runs.
Gebhard and Cole Calnon emerged as key contributors for the Lane offense, notching two hits apiece. Additionally, Brock Packer and Noah Juarez each brought in runs with RBIs.
The Titans now set their sights on Championship Monday where they will square off against Lower Columbia College at 12:05 p.m. The winner will face off against Tacoma afterwards to claim the title.
