EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College (LCC) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Brenton Muñoz, M.A., M.S., P.M.P., as the institution's next Vice President of Information Technology. His first day will be July 24, 2023.

Muñoz brings with him an extensive educational background and a firm commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the realm of information technology. Muñoz's philosophy of being a 'forever learner' aligns perfectly with the ethos of LCC, which champions the ongoing pursuit of knowledge.

"Brenton's vast experience with community colleges and his dedication to accessible education make him an ideal fit for LCC," said LCC President, Dr. Stephanie Bulger. "His focus on DEI and his dedication to technological innovation align perfectly with our mission and values. We are excited about the energy, expertise, and commitment Brenton will bring to Lane."

A seasoned leader with significant experience within the education sector, Muñoz currently serves as IT Innovation Officer & IT Project Management Office Director at Community Colleges of Spokane, where he oversees a team and manages a significant portion of the Chief Information Officer’s budget. His role includes complete oversight of projects from intake and analytics to cost analysis and spending cycles. Prior to this, Muñoz honed his technical leadership skills as a multifaceted Business Systems Administrator at Waubonsee Community College for over 7 years.

Throughout his career, Muñoz has led several large-scale technology initiatives, such as a transition from an on-prem Oracle server to a cloud-based SQL Server and the deployment of a new information system including a Salesforce roll-out.

A first-generation college graduate, Muñoz understands the challenges many students face and has worked to develop an acute sense of awareness about the difficulties related to education accessibility. Muñoz has expressed a commitment to implementing DEI-focused trainings for staff in his new role.

"We are confident that Brenton's skills and passion will significantly benefit the students and staff at LCC," said President Bulger. "We eagerly anticipate the innovative and inclusive strategies he will bring to our Information Technology department."

In addition to his IT expertise, Muñoz has a significant background in education. He has been an adjunct faculty member since 2004, specializing in instructional design, learning theory, and educational technology.

On his appointment, Muñoz said, "I am incredibly excited to join the team at LCC and look forward to contributing to its mission of providing an accessible, quality education. My journey in education has taught me the importance of community colleges and the opportunities they can provide, and I can't wait to bring my passion for DEI and technology to LCC."

Muñoz added that in today’s world of higher education, it’s important to “stay flexible and committed in this highly complex and dynamic environment.”
