Lane Community College is proud to announce the next installment of the Black Scholars Speakers Series. The event will host esteemed scholar, professor, and entrepreneur Dr. Khalid White on June 5, 2023, from 6-8 PM in Building 19 Room 226 at Lane Community College's main campus, 4000 E 30th Ave, Eugene.

The event is open to all students, educators, and community members interested in the rich legacy and vibrant future of Black intellectual and literary traditions, cultural wealth and healing, and transformational curriculum development. Enrolled attendees will receive a complimentary copy of Dr. White's book.

Dr. Khalid White is an award-winning figure in Education, Film, and Literature. Since 2004, he has been passionately educating California’s youth and young adults. Currently serving as an African American Studies Professor at San Jose City College, his influence extends beyond the classroom as the owner of the multimedia company Blkmpwr (Black Empower) LLC. The company focuses on fostering education, empowerment, and equity.

A proud alumnus of a Historically Black Colleges and University (HBCU), Khalid is also a strong advocate for community college education. He co-founded the Pipelines to Possibilities (P2P) program, aiming to bridge the gap between these two systems of higher education and increase faculty diversity. Khalid's enduring service in the intersections of education, public health, and community reflects his dedication to advancing equity, inclusion, and social justice.

Registration is free and required to attend the event.

The Black Scholars Speakers Series aims to foster appreciation and application of the essential contributions of Black scholarship–past, present, and future. It features both local and national luminaries, serving as an invaluable resource for students, pre-service and practicing educators, and community members. This event is proudly sponsored by Lane ESD, Pacific University, and Lane Community College.
