Web Privacy at Lane Community College

Lane Community College (“Lane Community College”, “Lane”, “LCC”) is committed to preserving and maintaining your privacy while visiting our websites. By visiting any of the following websites, you are accepting the practices described in this document:

Information Gathered

In order to help diagnose problems with our servers and websites, when you visit one of our pages, we collect data from your device, including but not limited to:

  • your Internet Protocol (IP) address
  • the page you requested
  • the page that referred you to the requested page
  • your browser user agent (which contains information about the browser and operating system versions you are using)
  • information about the size of your request, if your request was successful, and what time you made the request

We may also collect personal information from you directly, for example through a web form, through changes you make to your record in our student information system, during registration, or by signing up for waitlist text notifications. The Information we collect from you is not shared outside of Lane Community College and its partners, except as outlined in the “Use and Disclosure of Collected Information” section of these guidelines. 

When using these sites, we may also set cookies. These cookies allow us to maintain your session on the site and/or to customize content for you.

Google Analytics

Some of our sites use Google Analytics to monitor traffic. Google Analytics uses cookies, stored on your computer and sent to Google, to help us analyze how visitors use our site so we can improve its usefulness. We do not have direct access to information stored in these cookies, and can only look at aggregated reports of activity, which contain no specific information that can be linked to an individual. These reports may include information about visitor location, age, gender, frequency of link clicks, time on page, among many other items. We have also enabled Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting.

You can control your cookie preferences, including options to refuse cookies, from within your browser settings. Additionally, Google Analytics provides an opt-out browser plugin you can use to opt out of Google Analytics tracking.

Online advertising

We may use third party vendors to advertise services provided by Lane Community College online and to understand the effectiveness of our marketing efforts. These vendors, including search engines (like Google), social networks (like Facebook), and others, may show ads on our behalf through their platforms across the Internet. These services use cookies to tailor ads to your interests, based on websites you have visited (including this one). You can opt out of many of these cookies by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

Texting Services

Some services at Lane may send you text messages. This section outlines how we handle your data when engaging with our Application-to-Person (A2P) 10-digit long code (10DLC) waitlist notification and admissions text messaging services. It does not cover any other texting at Lane.

Information we collect for the purpose of texting

Personal Information: We collect personal information that you provide directly to us, such as your name, phone number, email address, and other contact details when you sign up for our services, request information, or communicate with us.

Usage Data: We may collect information about your interaction with our Site and services, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, access times, and referring website addresses. This helps us understand how our Site is used and improve our services.

Messages and Communication Data: When you interact with us via our text message services, we may collect data related to your messages, including the content of messages sent and received, timestamps, and other communication-related data.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

To Provide and Improve Our Services: We use your information to deliver, maintain, and improve our Site and messaging services.

To Communicate with You: We may use your contact information to respond to inquiries, send event reminders, send other updates, and provide information about our services. 

To Personalize Your Experience: We may use your information to customize your experience on our Site and offer content that may be of interest to you.

To Comply with Legal Obligations: We may use and disclose your information as necessary to comply with legal requirements, enforce our policies, and protect our rights or the rights of others.

Your Choices and Rights

Opt-Out of Messaging: If you wish to opt-out of receiving text messages from either the waitlist or admissions systems, you can reply with "STOP" or use the opt-out instructions provided in the message.

Access and Correction: You have the right to access, update, or correct your personal information. Much personal information can be corrected through student self-service. You may ask for assistance or clarification by contacting us at asklane@lanecc.edu.

Data Deletion: You may request the deletion of your personal information by contacting us. We will process your request in accordance with applicable laws.

Data Security

We make every effort to protect the personal information of those who visit our websites. Lane has put in place technical controls to safeguard and secure the information we collect online to prevent unauthorized access and ensure the correct use of information.

Use and Disclosure of Collected Information

As noted above, Lane Community College uses the information we collect to tailor site content to user needs, to generate aggregate statistical reports, to help diagnose problems, and otherwise to administer our web sites. At no time do we disclose personally identifiable site usage, except:

  • we may share your information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf. These providers may only use your information only for the purposes for which it was provided.
  • if you provide us with your consent to share your information.
  • when required to do so by law. When possible, we will attempt to notify you before disclosure, except when prohibited by court order.
  • to prevent imminent and serious bodily harm to a person; to address fraud, security, or spam; or to protect our rights or property.
