Beginning-High Beginning. This class focuses on sentence-level accuracy in written English in informative genres. Students will be able to write several basic sentences about personal topics with grammatical accuracy and will be able to write personal information correctly into forms. Students will practice new vocabulary in writing. This class also focuses on increasing reading skills and strategies with an intensive focus on vocabulary development. Special emphasis is placed on recognizing and writing many of the most common words in English. |
Level B – Writing/Grammar | 10 | High Beginning-Low Intermediate. This class focuses on accuracy in writing English in informative genres and simple directions. At the end of the class, students should be able to write a well-organized informational paragraph on a familiar topic with few grammatical or spelling errors. Students will practice new vocabulary in writing. |

High Beginning-Low Intermediate. This class focuses on increasing listening and reading skills and strategies with an intensive focus on vocabulary development. Special emphasis on recognizing and pronouncing many of the most common words in English. |
Level C - Writing/Grammar | 10 | Low Intermediate-Intermediate. This class focuses on accuracy in written English in narrative and informative genres. At the end of the class, students should be able to write an autobiographical essay and a well-developed, evidence-based paragraph with few grammatical or spelling errors. Students will practice new vocabulary (some introduced in Level C R/OS classes) in writing. |
Level C - Reading/Oral Skills | 10 | Low Intermediate-Intermediate. This class focuses on listening and reading skills and strategies. There is also an emphasis on pronunciation and vocabulary development. Students will be able to comprehend and use new vocabulary in spoken English. |
Level D - Writing/Grammar | 10 | Intermediate-High Intermediate. This class focuses on accuracy in writing English in a variety of community and basic academic contexts. At the end of the class, students should be able to write a basic process and informative essay with few grammatical or spelling errors. Students will practice new vocabulary (some introduced in Level D R/OS) in writing. |

Level E - Academic Writing/Grammar | 10 | High Intermediate-Low Advanced. This class focuses on accuracy in writing English in a variety of contexts. At the end of the class, students should be able to write an evidence-based essay with few grammatical or spelling errors. Students will also participate in a discussion forum about a novel they read together in this class. Students will practice new vocabulary (some introduced in Level E ASV) in writing. |
Level E - Academic Reading | 5 | High Intermediate-Low Advanced. This class focuses on developing academic vocabulary as well as reading speed and comprehension of non-simplified texts. |
Level E - Academic Listening/Speaking | 5 | High Intermediate-Low Advanced. This class focuses on accuracy in spoken English in a variety of academic contexts. Students will listen to academic lectures and give a variety of formal group and individual presentations. |
Level F - College Transition Writing/Grammar | 10 | Low Advanced-College Transition. This class focuses on accuracy in writing English in a variety of contexts. At the end of the class, students should be able to write and evidence-based essay with citations with few grammatical or spelling errors, an annotated bibliography and participate in a discussion forum about a novel. Students will practice new vocabulary in writing. |
Level F - College Transition Reading | 5 | Low Advanced.-College Transition. This class focuses on developing academic vocabulary as well as reading speed and comprehension of college-level texts. |
Level F - College Transition Listening/Speaking | 5 | Low Advanced-College Transition. This class focuses on accuracy in spoken English in a variety of academic contexts including listening to and taking notes on academic lectures in a variety of content areas. Students will observe a credit class and give a variety of formal group and individual presentations. |
