EUGENE, Ore.— The Lane Community College Art Gallery opens two exhibits January 7 featuring artists Pete Goldlust and Leah Wilson. A reception for both artists will be held Thursday, January 10, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. in the gallery.
"Crowd Scenes and Questionable Hybrids" by Pete Goldlust show colorful cartoon tableaus constructed from the remains of disemboweled stick figures, fragmented toys and gimpy robots, under the influence of mid-century graphic design. These prints and wall drawings are accompanied by a collection of suspended “polyjellies” or translucent biomorphic sculptures built from recycled plastic-ware. The Goldlust exhibit is in the Roger Hall Gallery from January 7 to March 11.
"Collecting Evanescence" by Leah Wilson features place-based paintings that address changes within environmental ecosystems over time. Both process and finished work reflect an engagement with ecology and environmental engineering through observation and data. Her artwork draws attention to natural cyclical changes, tells stories of landscapes that have been exploited and manipulated for their natural resources, and reveal the results of ongoing habitat restoration projects. The Wilson exhibit will be shown in the Main Art Gallery from January 7 to February 6.
The Lane Art Gallery is located in building 11 on main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene, and includes two adjacent exhibit spaces, the Main Gallery and the Roger Hall Gallery. The galleries are open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information contact Ellen Osterkamp at Art_Gallery@lanecc.edu or (541) 463-3432.
