New works on exhibit at LCC

EUGENE, Ore.—The Lane Community College Art Gallery opened two exhibits this week featuring artists Lillian Almeida, Milla Oliveira, and Sal Strom, as well as the paintings of LCC faculty JS Bird. A reception for both exhibits will be held Wednesday, February 19, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. in the gallery.

“LUSH” features artists Lillian Almeida, Milla Oliveira and Sal Strom. They collectively engage a rich use of materials and processes to push through the traditional conventions and expectations for the “stuff” we make with. Each artist employs the open language of materials as a conduit for memory, curiosity and meaning. This exhibit is in the Roger Hall Gallery from until March 12 and will feature an Artist Talk on Wednesday, February 19, from 3-4 p.m. in the gallery.

“Painted Days of Future Past” features a selection of images from a lifetime of work by JS Bird. Observe the development of a young artist seeking introspection to a mature artist looking out on the world. Bird’s paintings explore myth and storytelling, woven with nature, science and spirituality. This exhibit is in the Main Art Gallery until March 12 and will feature an Artist Talk on Thursday, February 27, from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the gallery.

The Lane Art Gallery is located in building 11 on main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene, and includes two adjacent exhibit spaces, the Main Gallery and the Roger Hall Gallery. The galleries are open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
