
EUGENE, Ore. — Three Lane Community College students have been selected to join the 2025 All-Oregon Academic Team, representing the college in Phi Theta Kappa’s prestigious All-USA Academic Team competition. Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for community college students and recognizes individuals who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to community service.
The Lane students selected for this honor are:
Kat Tabor (she/her), 20, from Eugene, Ore. is earning her Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree and a Certificate in Educational Assistance. She plans to transfer to the University of Oregon to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, with the goal of becoming the first in her family to earn a graduate degree. Kat credits Lane for helping her build confidence as a student and leader. She is a reporter and social media manager for The Torch, Lane’s student newspaper, and has had her work published in the Eugene Weekly. She also serves as Secretary of the Black Student Union, President of Creatives Club, and is an Honors Program participant.
PJ Knight (they/he), 24, Atascadero, Calif. is completing an Associate of Arts Transfer degree in Education Assistant and Community Educator and will transfer to the University of Oregon to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, with a minor in Disability Studies. PJ plans to continue on to graduate studies in sociology. A dedicated advocate and creator, PJ is a founding member of the Neurodivergent Student Union, a published poet, and a passionate volunteer. Their many campus and community roles include work with the People’s Revolutionary Garden, Lane’s Health Clinic, and local veterinary clinics.
Knight is a semifinalist for the Jack Kent Cooke Transfer Scholarship and has received numerous honors, including membership in Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Chi Eta, and a place on the President’s List.
Haley Jo Feigert (she/they) 22, of Bismark, N.D. is pursuing an Associate of Applied Arts in Graphic Design and a Certificate in Web Design. After several attempts at college were interrupted by financial challenges, Jo has found stability and support through state and federal aid and is now thriving at Lane. She hopes to use her education to create a more financially secure future and to inspire others who face similar hardships. Feigert is a member of Lane’s RPG Club and brings creativity and resilience to both her academic and personal pursuits.
In addition to her selection to the All-Oregon Academic Team, Kat Tabor has also been named a Bronze Scholar by the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team, a prestigious national program that honors high-achieving students for excellence in academics and leadership outside the classroom. Only 50 students nationwide are selected as Bronze Scholars, receiving a $1,000 scholarship.
These students join 55 exceptional scholars from across Oregon who were nominated by their colleges for their academic achievements and service to their communities. The All-Oregon Academic Team is part of a national recognition program sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, community college presidents, and state associations in 37 states.
Honorees and their families will be celebrated at the All-Oregon Academic Team Luncheon on April 18 at Chemeketa Community College’s Eola Center in Salem. This year’s keynote speaker is State Representative Ricki Ruiz (D-Gresham), a dedicated advocate for education and Oregon’s community colleges.
