From bootcamp to career in as quickly as 18 weeks
LANE COUNTY, Ore. — Within the last year, the spike in demand for skilled software developers has increased the number of open positions to 1.4 million. In Oregon alone, there are nearly 1,500 open software development roles in need of skilled tech workers.
Lane Community College has partnered with Promineo Tech, an innovative provider of tech education which aims to make coding education more affordable and accessible, to offer Front End and Back End Software Development bootcamps to help to bridge this educational gap.
The bootcamp style learning is designed to focus on the skills and methodologies that hiring managers look for when placing tech talent. Non-tech students looking to become software developers, or employees in the tech industry who want to progress in their careers are supported in the curriculum and structure of these bootcamps. The virtual classroom is set up to provide personalized learning and individualized attention to help each student rise to their potential.
Dean of Extended Learning, Mark Ven Den Hende, Ph.D. commented, “As Lane Community College retools to establish more Extended Learning opportunities, Promineo Tech is an exciting option for community, workforce, high school, and potential college students to retool with short term workforce training linked to LCC's well established technical degree programs, broadening the Lane 'One Campus' goal envisioned by President Margaret Hamilton.”
Lane Community College recognizes the need for efficient tech education in order to enhance the workforce development within the state, especially as the country sees an increase in people looking for work, or pondering the idea of switching careers.
Throughout the duration of the 18 week courses, students commit to about 20 hours a week mastering the skills and technologies that are necessary when interviewing for roles such as java developer, software engineer, back end developer, application developer and front end developer. Focusing on the employable skills makes graduates of the program desirable employees within the industry.
All students start classes on Sundays, and complete self guided study until their scheduled weeknight class. These live lectures are led by an instructor and provide a space for small class sizes with ample time for micro-tailored instruction.
“The rapid economic shift last year has created tremendous demand among those who want to re-skill,” shared Nick Suwyn, founder of Promineo Tech. “Bringing these bootcamp programs to Oregon is a great opportunity to enhance the workforce acceleration within the state, specifically in the increasingly in-demand field of technology. We’re excited to work with Lane Community College to accomplish this.”
The demand for skilled developers is projected to continue growing as it is already labeled the fastest growing occupation in this decade. Offering these specialized coding bootcamps is providing the communities in Oregon with the tools that they need to become employed in a time where employment has been so drastically affected by the global pandemic.
Enrollment for August and September cohorts are currently live. To learn more about attending or offering a coding bootcamp, visit https://www.promineotech.com/lane.
