EUGENE, Ore. — The Lane Community College (LCC) Board of Education is seeking applications for appointment to the board to serve as Zone 3 Director. The Zone 3 seat was vacated last month when former board member Mike Eyster announced that he was moving out of the district. Zone 3 represents an area generally described as Springfield/Marcola.

To apply, qualified residents should submit a completed application, resume, and cover letter to Celia Wright, Executive Assistant to the President and Liaison to the Board of Education, at wrightc@lanecc.edu, or at 541.463.5888. Application forms are available on the Board's website. The deadline to apply is July 8, 2024.

Interested candidates unsure of which Zone they reside in should contact the Lane County Elections office at (541) 682-4234 to determine if they reside in Zone 3.  District zone maps for the LCC District can also be viewed here.

The period of service for the board member appointed shall begin upon appointment and continue through the end of the position's current term: June 30, 2025. If the appointee wishes to continue to serve on the Board of Education past that date, they must then run for election in the May 2025 election. A full term of office for elected board members is four years.

Qualified candidates will be interviewed and appointed by current Board of Education members as directed by ORS 341.335(3). The seven-member board is responsible for approving institutional budgets, policies, and contracts. The college president reports directly to the Board, and through her administrative staff, carries out Board policies at the college.

Currently, board meetings are held on the first Wednesday evening of each month and work sessions are held on the third Wednesdays, with the exception of August when there are no meetings. Most board meetings are held in the LCC Boardroom, located on the LCC main campus at 4000 E 30th Avenue Eugene, Oregon 97405, and are also available in hybrid format.
