Mathematics
ABSE offers five levels of math instruction that help students prepare for the GED mathematics test and transition to credit math courses up to Math 111. Major topics include operations with whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ratios, proportions and percents; geometry and measurement; data analysis; simplifying and evaluating expressions; solving and graphing linear and quadratic equations; polynomials; and rational expressions.
Reading and Writing
Reading and Writing courses help students prepare for the GED, college, career, and everyday settings.
Writing instruction will help students develop critical skills for effective communication. Topics include organization, writing with clarity and purpose, developing thoughts and ideas, and producing strong writing responses, including essays.
Reading instruction builds students' skills for understanding, evaluating, and interacting with texts in a variety of subjects. Students learn effective reading strategies to increase their comprehension using different formats and purposes.
College Awareness
College Awareness classes help students learn about the vast resources available at Lane Community College to build confidence and readiness to succeed on their educational path.
