EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College’s PASS Lane is now accepting applications for two of its popular programs – Culinary/Baking and Early Childhood Education (ECE), designed specifically to support students whose first language is not English. With limited seats available, prospective students are encouraged to start the application process now. The Culinary/Baking & Pastry program begins its bridge session on Aug. 19, while the Early Childhood Education program starts in the fall term. Other PASS programs coming in 2025 include Nursing Assistant Preparation, Industrial Trades and Health/Office Professions. Financial resources are available to assist students in their journey.

PASS Lane - which stands for Pathways, Academic Skills, and Services - is a unique gateway program to transition students into career technical programs. The cohort model creates a motivating and supportive environment.  Coaches are available to problem-solve and connect students with resources and tools in real time as they come up during the term.

“We are thrilled to announce open enrollment for our Integrated Education & Training Program: PASS Lane,” said Coordinator Marcia Koenig. “Our tailored support services are designed to help students who speak English as an additional language to excel in their Career Pathways Certificates. The Culinary/Baking and Early Childhood cohorts start soon, with limited seats available.”

In PASS Lane programs, in addition to career-related courses, students take a noncredit contextualized reading & study skill development class.  Students receive a designated Coach and there are career engagement opportunities. Upon completion of PASS Lane options, students may complete a Career Pathway Certificate or other employment training certificate, earn college credits toward a related associate degree and enhance both job search and college success skills.

To apply, prospective students should complete a Lane Community College application. Additionally, students apply to PASS Lane by completing a Career Pathways Department Intake Form, a personal statement, and a recommendation form. They then meet with a Career Pathways Coach who will work with them to develop & confirm their goals, timeframe and financial plans.
