Dream, Believe, Achieve, written on a graduation cap

EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College (LCC) is excited to announce its 59th Annual Commencement, scheduled for Saturday, June 15, 2024. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the LCC Gymnasium, located on the main campus at 4000 E. 30th Ave, Eugene. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be accessible via Lane Video Streaming and will feature captions for increased accessibility.

The Honorable Judge Ann Aiken will be this year's keynote speaker. Judge Aiken has served as a United States District Court Judge for the District of Oregon since 1998 and took senior status in January 2024. Throughout her distinguished career, she has presided over numerous complex civil and criminal cases, demonstrating a deep commitment to public service and justice. Judge Aiken has also been a leader in alternative dispute resolution and reentry programs, working to facilitate the reintegration of criminal offenders into the community. Her extensive experience and dedication to public service will provide our graduates with valuable insights and inspiration.

Additional distinguished speakers include Student Body President Shalynn Buys and Psychology Instructor Eric Kim. Dr. Rachel Bitecofer, a renowned political scientist, election forecaster, and political strategist, will be recognized as the recipient of this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Bitecofer is best known for her accurate prediction of the "blue wave" in the 2018 midterm elections. She began her academic journey at Lane Community College, where she discovered her passion for political science, which led to a successful career in political analysis and strategy. Dr. Bitecofer has been featured in major news outlets and continues to make significant contributions to political discourse. Her latest book, "Hit Em' Where It Hurts: How to Save Democracy By Beating Republicans at Their Own Game," was released earlier this year.

"This event is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience of our students," said President Stephanie Bulger, who will be presiding over her second commencement as Lane’s President. "As we celebrate their achievements, we also look forward to the many ways they will contribute to our society and create a brighter future."

Graduates planning to participate in the ceremony are asked to RSVP online by May 24. Additional information can be found on the Commencement website.
