Phi Theta Kappa
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is an international honor society which recognizes and encourages scholarship among students at community colleges. PTK provides opportunities to cultivate professional and leadership skills, secure scholarships, explore diverse career paths, and build a network of supportive peers and trusted advisors.
Get Involved
Membership
To join, students must currently be enrolled in a degree, certificate, or transfer program at LCC; have completed at least 12 credits; and have a GPA of 3.25 or better. Invitations are automatically sent to students once they become eligible, usually going out around week 4 of Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. The invitations come from the PTK Headquarters, so they might look like spam. PTK is a great organization and there are real benefits to membership, including scholarship eligibility and access to free online professional development courses.
Limited funds may be available to assist with the membership fees (reduced in Fall 2024 to $80 for lifetime membership). Please contact Dr. Blue if you would like to join but the cost would be a burden to you.
Chapter Activities
Sigma Zeta is an active chapter so there are lots of ways to get involved, but we also know that many students don't have free time. There is no requirement that members must attend meetings or be involved in any projects - you can do as much or as little as you like.
Membership Meetings: Chapter leaders schedule membership meetings each term. Everyone is welcome at membership meetings, so please join us if you would like to see what we have going on.
Induction: Once a year we have an induction ceremony to welcome new members and induct officers. It's a great event that provides an opportunity to share your academic success with family and friends.
Stay Updated
New PTK members are automatically added to the Titan Scholars Moodle, and to the Sigma Zeta Facebook group. Event announcements are shared through those sources as well as in the Titan Times newsletter and on posters and signs.
5-Star Chapter
Sigma Zeta strives to maintain 5-Star Chapter Status. To this end, every year we undertake a College Project, which provides service to our College, and an Honors in Action project, which provides opportunities for scholarship as well as service to our community. Please contact chapter officers to learn more about how you can get involved.

Chapter History
The Sigma Zeta Chapter began at Lane Community College in May of 1968, when Lane had fewer than 1000 students and membership cost just $10. Today, the college is much larger and so is our chapter. The chapter was inactive during the first years of the COVID-19 pandemic, but has since been revived. Today, Sigma Zeta continues to grow and provide support for student leadership and scholarship.
