I also help in the Library's evaluation of new electronic and reference resources, do classroom presentations for students and teachers, and work on projects such as the Library's unique movie screenplay collection and some web 2.0 technologies such as Delicious, Flickr, Picasa, and LibraryThing. Presently I am working on an exciting new service called LibGuides. My online id is Waikowhai; my avatar is Bucky Katt, and occasionally Puppet Spike. I do quite a bit of writing & research - my publication history is here on OCLC WorldCat. Coming from a remote land downunda, I'm intrigued with how prehistoric humans eventually settled some of the planet's more isolated islands. I do some projects with music & media, and I'm especially a student of the Buffyverse. I also specialize in American Indians of the Northwest. My main work is on the Siuslaw-Kuitsh and Chetco-Tututni peoples of the Oregon Coast, the Indian languages of Western Oregon, and also the rare ceremonial artifacts known as coppers. I also write in vexillology (the science of flags), and I have a WordPress media blog. I also design & manage external websites for several community groups, including Eugene's Friendly Area Neighbors. When I'm not working, I'm tooling around Eugene on my trusty old Trek 720, usually with a stopoff at the High St. Or I'm out of town travelling with my wife Marji - to Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and St-Pierre et Miquelon; Britain, especially gardens and pubs; the wild coasts of Labrador; New Zealand and Vancouver Island; to Ireland and Joshua Tree & the Salton Sea; and in 2008 to Alaska with my Kiwi friends P&M. I always travel with a camera - my favorite shots are from nature, especially my bristlecone pine series. I also collect comedy records & books, and I'm always foraging for great music, especially Zero 7.
