What is Summit?
Summit is the online library catalog for the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a library consortium composed of more than 33 public and private colleges, community colleges, and universities in the Pacific Northwest. Through Summit you have access to over 27 million books, sound recordings, videos, and more. Not only can your items be delivered to Lane's circulation desk, they can also be delivered to any of the other Alliance member libraries - you choose. Summit items will usually arrive within 2-5 days from the time you submit your request.
Visiting another member library? Yes, you have borrowing privileges - read more before you go.
Who Can Borrow
Summit Borrowing is available to Lane's currently enrolled credit students and current or retired faculty and staff members. Although Summit borrowing is not available to non-credit students, community borrowers or town patrons, our interlibrary loan service is available to these library users. Please check with the circulation desk at 463-5273 for more information on interlibrary loans.
Loan Periods, Renewals, and Returning Items
| Regular items must be picked up within 7 calendar days after they are available at the Circulation Desk. Special items that only circulate for 3 days must be picked up within 3 days. To check the status of your request please check your record. Contact the Circulation Desk with any questions at 463-5273. |
- You will be notified by email when the item is available for pick up. Check your record to verify your email address.
- Most items check out for 21 days
- Special materials such as videotapes and sound recordings may be available for a three-day or three-week borrowing period if the owning library elects to make this option available.
- Items may be renewed once if there are no holds (local or Summit) on the item; check your patron record to place a hold and to confirm whether the renewal was allowed.
- Materials borrowed through Summit can be returned to Lane's Library, the owning library, or any Alliance member library.
- Each authorized user can have up to a combined total of 200 Summit requests or checked-out items at one time.
Fines
All Summit Borrowers (students, staff, and faculty) are subject to fines.
Visiting Another Member Library
Borrowing policies may vary from one institution to another. Loan periods, fines, and other circulation policies for "visiting patrons" vary among institutions; you are bound by the rules of the library from which you borrow.
BEFORE YOU GO TO ANOTHER MEMBER LIBRARY:
- Verify that you are in Lane's Library system by checking your record or contacting the circulation desk (463-5273):
- Note to students: After registering for classes at LCC, your "L" number and ExpressLane PIN are imported to the Library system. Please contact the circulation desk if you are unable to access your record.
- Note to staff: Staff information is not automatically imported from ExpressLane. To borrow items from the Lane and Alliance libraries, come to Lane's circulation desk to set up your account and Library PIN.
- Read the Alliance's webpage: Visiting other Alliance libraries.
- Information, hours, and contact information for UO and other Alliance libraries.
Getting Started
Requesting items in the Summit catalog is easy. All you need to know is your Lane ID number (L number). To see when your item is ready for pickup, view the status of a hold that you have placed, or to cancel a request, you will also need to know your Library PIN.
What is my Library ID and PIN?
Students: After registering for classes at LCC, your "L" number and ExpressLane PIN are imported to the Library system. If you later change your ExpressLane PIN, your Library PIN will not automatically be changed. If you are unable to access Library services, try using the ExpressLane PIN you had when first registering for classes if you can remember it. If your PIN still does not work, contact the circulation desk (463-5273) to remove the existing PIN so you may create a new PIN.
Staff: Staff information is not automatically imported from ExpressLane. To borrow items from Lane and Alliance libraries, come to Lane's circulation desk to set up your account and Library PIN. If you already have a library account and have forgotten your PIN, please contact the circulation desk (463-5273) to remove the existing PIN so you may create a new PIN.
Using Summit
- Before you begin, confirm your name, L number, and PIN by viewing your library record . You are now ready to request items in Summit.
- Go to Lane's Library catalog and search just like you would if you were searching for the item at Lane.
- From the search results screen, press the button [Repeat Search in Summit]. This automatically passes your search to Summit.

- Once your search is passed to Summit, select an item's link.

- This page gives detailed information about the item. Here you will find the option to request the item by selecting the link, "REQUEST THIS ITEM."

Item status
The system automatically selects which library an item will be sent from. There may be instances, however, when you would want to check the status of an item, such as when there are no copies available for requesting. This is done by clicking on the link ".. Summit libraries have this item."
- AVAILABLE - The item is requestable.
- DUE XX-XX-XX - The item is checked out; you may put a hold on it if it is generally available for Summit borrowing.
- # HOLD - A patron has requested this item, but hasn't checked it out yet. You may put another hold on the item if it is generally available for Summit borrowing.
- MISSING - The item is missing from the shelves; the item is not requestable.
- LOCAL USE ONLY - The item is not generally available for Summit borrowing, but may be available for local or on-site borrowing or interlibrary loan.
- Select Lane CC as the institution you are affiliated with.

- Fill out this form with your name and L number. The item will be delivered to Lane's circulation desk unless you would like to pickup the item at another Alliance institution. To request an item to be picked up at another alliance institution, use the drop down list at the bottom of this form.

- You have now completed your request.
- View your library record for the status of your request.
- To avoid fines, return the borrowed item to Lane's Library, the owning library, or any Alliance member library on or before the due date.
