The Family Herbalist
Become the expert your family turns to for basic health advice for common problems. Many Americans are making self care a significant part of their health care program. These people need trained family experts to help them find the appropriate herbs that they will need for their day-to-day health concerns.
The Family Herbalist incorporates practical, day-to-day family uses and herbal preparations for Western, Chinese and Ayurvedic herbs. The focus of this course is herbal uses for each body system, specific healing properties of several dozen individual herbs and basic principles of folk and family herbalism from these three major traditional herbal healing systems.
The nine session program is offered in a series weekly evening sessions. You will receive an Award of Competition. The goal of this course is to prepare you to be the herbalist for your family’s common health maintenance needs. Extensive electronic materials provided. Taught by K.P. Khalsa, and occasional guest experts.
This course is very economical. As health care costs rise, people find that some basic herbal knowledge goes a long way toward helping the whole family stay healthy. This course is well organized and covers the basics of family care efficiently and practically. The curriculum covers herbal styles and plant remedies from around the world in a well rounded perspective. It is a tremendous opportunity to gain the knowledge you need to benefit your family and friends, or just to be a healthier person.
Class Content:
- Study of specific herbs and their uses in family health care
- Basic principles of Western, Chinese & Ayurvedic systems of herbalism for children, parents & grandparents
- Herbal preparations, dose and indications for the family
- Salves, ointments, liniments, poultices
- Therapeutics by body system (Digestive, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Nervous System and Eye, Urinary, Immune, Endocrine, Musculoskeletal, Skin, Reproductive)
- Herbalism of the young and the elderly
Class Format:
The class meets weekly for 3 hours on a weeknight, for a total of nine sessions. Class includes lecture and discussion with some hands-on exercises done with support from instructor.

About the Instructor:
Course facilitator, Karta Purkh Singh Khalsa, D.N.-C., R.H., has over 35 years of experience and is one of the foremost herbal experts today. He is a nationally respected teacher, writer and lecturer who has presented at 120 national conventions and conferences. The co-teachers include a cadre of highly trained herbal professionals.
